Caulfield Cup Day 2015

If there was ever a day I was going to entirely embrace the whole ‘I’m-totally-feminine-floral-delicate-and-incredibly-girly’, it was the day of the Melbourne Racing Club, BMW Caulfield Cup. With spring in the air, sun in the sky, and pink blooms decking out the entire David Jones Marquee, I was indeed the perfect level of girly.

And what a day it was! With little to no knowledge of what races were actually occurring on the day, lets skip straight to the Fashions on the Field. The most common theme for the day appeared to be feminine white lace, worn in a looser, less structured manner from leading Australian designers like Zimmermann, Thurley and Alice McCall. Others opted for bolder tones like lemon yellow, and emerald green worn with structured, elegant millinery. As expected, most opted for minimal headwear, sticking to a gold, silver or bronze theme, in crown/headband form (similar to mine below), as well as slightly more structured smaller pieces with a bit of height, in red, bronze, black or white.

I opted for a delicate Camilla & Marc pastel-tone dress from David Jones, with a simplistic gold headpiece from Forever New. I kept things simple (and surprisingly comfortable) with a single strap belle stone heel from Jo Mercer and wore only a little bit of fine gold jewellery to keep the focus on the pleated detail and floral dress vibes. I added a crisp-white lace camisole underneath as a final touch, and also to avoid any totally-not-chic, alarmingly likely, peek-a-boo situations.

All in all, an absolutely fabulous day of fashion, the David Jones Marquee and the Champagne Pommery Pegasus Club Marquee helped set the scene perfectly for what was a beautiful afternoon.

PS: My best-dressed award goes to model, Montana Cox. She wore a fresh-off-the-runway Zimmermann dress-skirt-situation, crazy statement earrings and a ridiculously fabulous headpiece and she entirely pulled it off. 10/10 babes.
